CHARACTER
Character Name: Papyrus
Age: 2X years old
Species: Monster (Skeleton)
Canon: Undertale
Canon Point: Approximately one year into his reign as King of the Underworld, shortly after the inevitable arrival of another human.
Character Info: Wiki
As well as some headcanon additions in the post-canon year during his time as King.
Personality: Being a skeleton sure makes it easy to keep smiling, even when you're not feeling it. Fortunately, Papyrus is always feeling it! Even when he's not happy! Because when you don't feel happy or confident, the very best thing to do is to act like you are. Acting like a thing is true makes it more true. Or so he tells himself, through years of feeling lonely and awkward and forgettable, and then through the year of being the figurehead of hope and optimism for the entire underworld.

As a loud, awkward, energetic skeleton with little understanding how most things work, Papyrus is an unusual choice for king. Certainly he's hard-working, in that he rarely sleeps, keeps perfectly ready to answer his phone promptly any time day or night, and consistently appears for meeting every single day... But he's bored by things like filling crossword puzzles, building sturdy sentry stations, or explaining puzzles, even when he wants the results of doing the work. Fortunately, he has a brother willing to assist him with the messy details, the paperwork, and the other parts he doesn't care about.

Papyrus wants desperately to be liked and respected, and he changes his behavior and stated opinions to fit what he thinks others are looking for. He pretends he doesn't know what laboratories are and complains about puns far more when Sans is around, to better let his brother think he's even more naive and exasperated than he is. There's nothing punsters love more than someone who reacts to puns. It's from that want to be liked that he strives to be kind and patient, to give people what he's sure they want or need. He also projects his own feelings all over others, so it's toss-up how accurate he is about what they want. But it's the thought that counts, isn't it?

Abilities: Papyrus is a skeleton monster with fine control over his magic. As with all monsters, he has magic projectiles (bone-shaped, as a skeleton), where the white ones hurt and the blue ones only hurt if his target is moving while touching them. With his control, Papyrus can spell words and make a super cool skateboarding bone with shades. Through his connection to Sans (and Gaster), he also has the ability to summon a Gaster Blaster, a skull that fires an intense magical laser, as a last-resort SPECIAL ATTACK And he has the ability to grab a person's SOUL and affect them with a gravity/momentum manipulation ability, messing around with the pull of gravity to make them heavier (subjecting them to a jumping, side-scroll combat style), or use it on himself to pull off weird stunts. He's also a reliable dispenser of "helpful" advice and "delicious" cooking. And he has a phone with dimensional storage because his usual outfits sure don't have any pockets.

CARNIVAL
Soul Colour: #FF4711, Red orange.
Ideal Jobs: Patrol, Concessions, Janitor, or Shill
Relevant Experience:
Patrol - having been a sentry and a king, he knows things about keeping an eye out, intervening with a potentially aggressive human, and improving morale.
Concessions - able to enthusiastically welcome people while staying mostly in-character, able think of monologues off the top of his head. He probably shouldn't actually prepare the food.
Janitor - because boy does he know cleaning up after people, especially people like his brother. And no job is too lowly for him! Everything he does is important, if only by virtue of him doing it!
Shill - because he's completely willing to ham up his achievements and victories, even his fictional ones.
Reason for Joining: King Papyrus was so upset about needing to decide what to do about the new human that he, of all people, wanted a vacation. And then he heard he could take a very short break, one that wouldn't make anybody lonely or disrupt anybody else's lives or even let anyone know he'd been gone, by going to the carnival for a while, and returning the moment he returned. The chance to step out for a good time and come back refreshed, ready to take things on with a brighter heart, appealed to him. And when an idle remark revealed he could stay for a year and a day, and in exchange the Ringmaster could take down the barrier without any humans getting hurt? He signed on in a non-existent skeletal heartbeat.
